In the beginning a blog was the new age diary. A daily account of one’s life entered into a virtual reality for all to see. Nowadays blogging has become much more serious.

What Is a Blog?

A blog is basically a piece of information that is shared with the world. Anyone can have one and they are very easy to create using some of the most popular free sites such as www.wordpress.com or www.weebly.com

By using one of these free sites you will get your own personalized website address and will be able to post entries, pictures and videos as often as you choose. These entries or blogs will be published onto the Internet with the most recent blog appearing first.

Should I Write a Blog?

The easiest way to answer this question is to ask yourself whether you have something you want to share. Maybe you want to let your friends and family keep up to date with your daily exploits or you have a business or product you want to promote. Either way, blogging is a brilliant way of getting your story out into the wide world. However, if you do not enjoy writing or using a computer then blogging is probably not for you.

How Do I Write A Blog?

Before you start, make sure you know what you are talking about. It’s no good publishing information that might not be factual because there are plenty of people out there just waiting to correct you. And don’t ever copy anyone else’s work be it writing, photos or videos, otherwise you could get into serious trouble.

Make sure your blog is interesting. You want the people who read it to come back for more and most importantly to comment on what you are saying.

Don’t use endless amounts of text that people will be bored by. Use short, informative sentences that are easy to read and will prevent your readers from drifting off to somewhere more interesting.

Mention your keywords early on and use them a few times in the first couple of paragraphs without making your writing sound stilted. Writing this way will help to optimize your blog and help it to appear higher up on the search engines. Also add links and tags where you can as this also helps with search engine optimization.

Keywords are the words people use to search for what they are looking for on the Internet. For example if you are surfing the Internet to find a pink nail varnish you will most probably use the keywords ‘pink’ ‘nail’ and ‘varnish.’ Simple? Maybe, but beating your competition to get that customer to your blog is a whole different story.

Blogging is a great interactive tool and most sites will allow visitors to make comments. Encourage this wholeheartedly by asking questions and make your visitors’ experience a good one.

After The Blog

To be a successful blogger you will need to do more than write something interesting and add a few pictures. After your blog has been published you should make good use of your time by promoting your site. Visit other blogs and social networking sites such as Facebook and Twitter and leave comments encouraging people to visit your blog.
