Bully Boy Tactics To Use On Bully Boy Bad Paying Clients!

There are times when as a writer, you have to take the 'boxing gloves' off and hit bad paying clients where it hurts. I am talking of course, about the times when clients start playing silly games and when payment is not forthcoming for the work you have provided them with - but the excuses for NOT paying come ten a penny!



So – Where Does It Hurt a Bad Paying Client?

Public relations is something all successful businesses and companies need to have in place – today the speed with which a bit of bad PR can hit the news is quite frightening. But it is also a very useful tool for writers who have to chase clients for their money.

If a client is quick to offer excuses not to pay a bill but slow to come up with the readies, then a nice 'little tweet' about them will work wonders – don't mention the bad payers by name - to begin with anyway – simply say something like 'unbelievably a company in Western Australia is giving me grief over a payment'. This is the first step in creating an embarrassing phase of bad PR for the company – and it works a treat. After all – what company in the virtual world today wants any bad press!

If at first you don't succeed – then try and try again. Each time you need to raise your game and then report any bad paying clients to writers' websites and scam sites in the country the client operates out of.

Protect Your Work – Register Your Copyright

It goes without saying that you need to 'vet' your clients before you write any articles, copy or content for them. But this is not always possible. This means you need to take the necessary steps to protect your hard labours and you can do this by registering your work with a copyright site like SampleSafe.

If any of your work remains unpaid – it still belongs to YOU. Until you have got your dosh in the bank from a client – the copyright remains yours and this means you can publish, sell or use your work any way you wish to and if the client threatens you – all the better because they are in the wrong.

So, remember if you come across a bad paying client – don't give up instead take your boxing gloves off and hit them where it hurts! It is not only very rewarding to get paid for the work you have provided but the whole process can be extremely cathartic too!

How Much Is Your Copy Worth?

If like me you employ the services of writers as well as write copy yourself, then you might agree with what I am about to say. Everyone likes to get a 'bargain' but there is a limit to what this should actually be. Writers in countries like India, Africa and Asia are too quick to accept a miserable deal on the rates employers want to pay them. My question is "How much do YOU as an employer and writer value the copy people write for you?"


First Question - How Much Importance Do You Place On Your Content?


Accepting work that is blatantly sub-standard seems to be a ridiculous acceptance of what has to be worse than second best. Very often it is through no fault of the author/writer that their copy is not up to scratch and there could be a number of reasons why it is rubbish. English is probably the author's second language, they are probably desperate to earn a little cash, their cost of living allows them to accept diabolically low rates.

A rate of $2 per article just does not cut it - and no one in their right minds would expect this lowly paid work to be 'top quality copy'. If they do - they either need their heads examining or their English is just as bad as the person  who wrote their copy for them which results in the fact they are totally oblivious to the fact they have commissioned and paid for rubbish copy. The second whammy is the writer thinks they have done a great job! That may sound harsh - but the truth often is.

Where Have Our Values Gone?

Writers need to feel proud of their copy - not just the dollar signs their work represents. Are you not shocked at the quality of the content and copy you read on the Internet these days? Or is it that you don't bother reading it anymore and just  scan the content? Finding the odd mistake in copy  could be thought of as acceptable but the utter rubbish, the bad sentence structure and the absolute belief that ANYONE & EVERYONE can write decently just because they have access to a computer and the Internet - is sadly just so untrue.

Then there is the factually incorrect content. The Internet is full of conflicting affirmations about so many things - the question here is 'Does anyone really care?' - the answer is hopefully 'yes'.

Speed is Not of the Essence

However, everyone is so intent on getting things 'done' as fast as they possibly can before the competition gets there first, that quality appears to be a thing of the past. Marketing, strategies, techniques, lead generation, prospecting - there are thousands of websites out there all offering the 'best' tips and advice on how to run a successful online business, not matter what it happens to be.

The funny thing is that very often this copy is written by someone who does not have a clue what they are writing about let alone be able to write about it in a language that is basically alien to them. Good copy is not that hard to find - but you have to be prepared to pay decent rates for it. The bottom line is that you get what you pay for!
